The scholarship parameters are as follows:
• The individual must be at least 18 by the end of the term when
the National Registry test would be taken
• The individual must provide the last school transcripts available
• The individual must provide two letters of reference from non
family members
• The individual must write an essay outlining the reason that he/she
should be considered for the scholarship
• The individual must live within the Region II area. This includes
the following counties: Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton,
Genesee, Hillsdale, Huron, Ingham, Jackson, Lapeer, Livingston, Kalamazoo,
Lenawee, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clare, St. Joseph, Tuscola,
Van Buren
• The individual will participate in an oral interview to be administered
by the Scholarship Committee. This Committee will be made up of 5 voting
position and 2 non voting positions. Tammy Smith and the Executive Director
of REU will hold the non voting slots. The remaining Committee members
will be compiled with a member from each of the following: REU, Lifecare
Ambulance, JCA, Borgess, and AirCare.
• Once selected, the individual will be required to maintain a GPA
3.0 or above
• The individual must obtain a state license within 1 year of course
completion
• If either of these 2 items is not met, a payback of the total
amount gifted must occur.
• If the individual utilized the gift to educate at the Basic EMT
level, and met the above criteria, and has the desire to attend a paramedic
program, the gift will continue to fund that individual’s education
as long as he/she maintains a GPA 3.0 or above and that he/she obtains
a state license within 1 year from course completion. If the individual
fails to comply with the standards set forth, he/she must payback the
gift.
